Genius Vision has resumed the online license purchase system to a functional state. It has been deactivated for general availability since 2019/7/9 due to a series of "refund attacks" initiated by individuals including but not limited to Rick McLaughlin, Michael Dimas, and George Reuss.

As we have explained abundantly on our website, we believe the "unknown group" constituted by those individuals has planned those attacks in order to gain improper control of Genius Vision. Throughout the years we have developed new strategies to combat the unknown group and therefore we decided to reopen the online license purchase system.

It is, however, noteworthy to say that please refrain from any further "refund" requests. Genius Vision NVR is a piece of professional software. Some users feel they are eligible for a refund simply because the software did not meet their expectations or does not work in their own scenario. We cannot stress enough that this idea is WRONG. Requesting any "refund" causes a profound burden and trouble to the seller's business, logistics, and mind. We strongly urge everyone not to engage in such wrongful practice.

About Lite edition license

Lite Edition has not been generally available and thus will not be included in the change this time. The idea of Lite Edition is to reduce price in exchange for volume. Therefore, for inquiries of license purchase amount larger than US$10,000, please contact us for Lite Edition availability.

Stop supporting the iOS platform

As a formal announcement, Genius Vision has officially stopped support for the iOS platform. The reason is mainly financial because supporting the iOS platform means continuously investing in new Apple hardware and software. New customers should not expect Genius Vision to work on the iOS platform. However, if you have already installed our APP on your iOS device, it should continue to work.

Upcoming Patreon rewards program adjustment (V3)

Note: This article is about Community Edition. This change WILL NOT affect existing patrons. Also, Commercial Edition is not affected by this change.

We are changing Patreon rewards, which is scheduled to be effective on 2019/10/1. New rewards structures V3 can be reviewed in this article "Patreon-backed Community Edition Packaging Version 3". At the date of this announcement, which is 2019/9/4, the program in effect is "Patreon-backed Community Edition Packaging Version 2", which will, naturally, be ceased to be effective after 2019/10/1.

Those who become our patron before the change date will keep their rewards unchanged, but those after will need to adopt the new program.

Updates to NVR Commercial price, Subscription, and Virtual Machine issues

We are announcing following upcoming updates: (The rationale will be explained in the following text)

Subscription Edition stopped offering new license: Effective immediately, Genius Vision has decided to stop offering new Subscription Edition license.

Commercial license price update
Starting from 2019-02-01, the pricing will be changed to Professional: $80 USD/channel, Intelligent: $110 USD/channel, Panoramic: $150 USD/channel.

Virtual Machines no longer applicable for commercial license.
We found many users are systematically exploiting Virtual Machines to evade properly paying Genius Vision license fee. Therefore this step is necessary to protect our revenue.

Rationale

As this article that we posted on Facebook at 10/22, and this news update we announced at 10/26, we have recently detected a group of people of unknown origin, who are operating internationally. We were originally lead to believe that this unknown group has only recently targeted Genius Vision. However, after more study to the historical data, we found Genius Vision has been targeted since mid-2017, maybe even earlier. This recent wave of attacks has intensified significantly during early this October that made us became aware of such threat. Therefore, we are forced to make a serious effort to figure out the extent of this threat.

We believe the purpose of this unknown group is to gain control access of Genius Vision through improper methods (in other words, "hacking" at personnel-level). These methods include attacking Genius Vision's technical and business consultation channels through misleading information and high-frequency inquiry, using classical social engineering methods. Though the attacks are now believed to have started since mid-2017, it can be observed the attack has intensified during March 2018. At that particular moment, Genius Vision was trying to increase revenue by making trial policies more strict.

It would seem that we have managed to successfully fight off these attacks so far. That's why the attack has intensified significantly since October, that made us become aware. From now on, we will be following up "closely" on this issue.

As always, Genius Vision as a software developer, we believe quality software comes from integrity, honesty, and business ethics. We sincerely apologize if recent policy changes have caused some inconvenience, but it's necessary for us to stand against this kind of unknown group.

NVR Lite price change and offline license activation adjustment

This news update was originally released at 9/6, however, due to a suspected system-wide attack to Genius Vision technical and business consultation channels, we are making this updated adjustment:

Starting from December 2018, NVR Lite Edition will be adjusted to $50 USD/Channel.
The "license offline activation" mechanism (originally available at http://geniusvision.net/offline) will be stop working on Lite Edition, also starting from December 2018.

Upcoming trial policy update for Commercial, Enterprise, and Subscription Editions

Here we announce several important upcoming product trial policy update that will be commenced at 2018-03-01 as follows:

Commercial Edition: Trial period will be changed from 60 days to 30 days.
Enterprise Edition: Same as Commercial Edition.
Subscription Editions: Trial period will be changed from 60 days to 7 days. Also, only one product item per account will allow to be created for trial. Quantity of that item will have no additional limits.

Genius Vision NVR Enterprise (x64) Edition version 931 renovated

Date: 2018-01-19

Genius Vision is pleased to announce NVR Enterprise (x64) Edition has been renovated.

With the same powerful function as Commercial Edition, Enterprise Edition (starting from version 931) now shares the same license structure as Commercial Edition. (The previously designed "copye license requirement" has been removed.) Users who uses Commercial Edition can now opt change to Enterprise Edition without any hassle, just by overwrite the existing installation directly.

Please note, however, Genius Vision do not recommend making change to any long-running or mission-critical production system. Although from technical point of view, the upgrade process is designed to be fairly straightforward, there are still field risks the user must be aware of, and therefore be completely responsible for any change the user might make. Upcoming packaging and pricing update for Commercial, Enterprise, and Lite Subscription Editions

Here we announce several important upcoming product package updates that will be commenced at 2018-02-01 as follows:

Commercial license price update
The new pricing will be changed to: Professional: $70 USD/channel, Intelligent: $100 USD/channel, Panoramic: $130 USD/channel.

Enterprise Edition will be simplified and formally launch
Previously Enterprise Edition has been declared as "phasing out". This is no longer true, as we have decided to formally launch Enterprise Edition and make it functionally equivalent to Commercial 64-bit Edition. We will also remove the installation key requirement ("copye"), and make the license interchangeable between Commercial Edition and Enterprise Edition.

Lite Subscription will stop issue new license
Subscription Edition has been decided to retarget professional market. Therefore we decided to stop issuing new license of Lite Subscription. Regular Subscription is not affected. Existing Lite Subscription before the commence date will also not be affected.

NVR Lite Edition "Limited Special Offer" is ending

Date: 2017-10-08

NVR Lite Edition is priced at "limited special offer", $10 USD/Channel since the time it's announced, which is December 2013. Now it's almost four years later, and it's finally about time that the "limited special offer" should end.

Starting from December 2017, NVR Lite Edition will be adjusted to $20 USD/Channel. Thank you for your continued support for Genius Vision products.

Note: This does not affect Subscription Edition.

Paid license replenishment procedure announced

Date: 2017-09-21

"License replenish fee" is one kind of software maintenance fee, which is commonly seen in software vendors. Generally speaking, software maintenance charge is required after certain amount of time is passed, or certain change is incurred (such as hardware or system change). In the past, Genius Vision doesn't provide any means to charge for software maintenance fee. With the policy update announced at 2017/6/23, a new license replenish fee and policy is now in effect.

As our system maintenance manual well suggested, normal practice of license installation is that user should firstly install the license in ONLINE state for a short period of time. After the system (including hardware) is confirmed to be stable, the user should commit the license to the hardware within one year. However, some users, for one reason or another, may fail to do so in a variety of ways. In these cases, license will be lost, and replenishment might be needed. It is similar when your hardware is broken for any reason, you need to buy another one, or send to maintenance facilities, from which some repair fee may incur.

Now that the rules has been announced, users can apply for license replenishment when needed.

If you don't have uncommitted Genius Vision online license, this policy update does not affect you in anyway. This also does not affect subscription license.

Scheduled server maintainence (during 3/13~3/14 intermittently)
